MCM London Comic Con October 2017

MCM London Comic Con time! I always really enjoy these events but that could be due to the fact I know I’ll be supping down passion fruit bubble tea for 3 days. I do love me some bubble tea.  I was also on a mission to find anything Baby Groot related as I was absolutely head over heels in love with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

As usual, saying goodbye to my baby for a few days was heartbreaking.

His little sad face though ;_;

And yes, I do have neon pink hair! Note to self, NEVER NEVER NEVER dye your hair the morning you are leaving for a convention because you have no chance to put it right if it goes wrong.  And boy did it go wrong.  It was so bright I swear they could see me on the space station.

We got to the Excel in good time with a car literally bursting at the seams full of stock because smart ass here had thought it would be a good idea to have 2 tables for this show.  Setting up was certainly going to be a task, a task I almost had to do by myself when some twat security dude didn’t believe that Bret was over 16 years old and Bret hadn’t brought any ID with him.  Luckily, the lovely MCM people came to my rescue and saved the day.

Once inside, my mission for finding anything Baby Groot related didn’t take very long.  The people who were 1 table up from us had this gorgeous piece on display.

OMG!! My heart!!

At £350 he wasn’t cheap but he stood about 2 feet tall and was absolutely amazing.  I was VERY tempted to get my credit card out right there and then and weep about it later.  However, I was strong and decided to resist.

Let me tell you, setting up 4 tables (2 front and 2 backers) isn’t an easy task.  I had written my basic plan beforehand but to be honest, that didn’t make it any easier.  Infact I had numerous mental blocks where I just didn’t know what the hell I was doing.  Cue, bathroom break.

As you can clearly see, I have a very crazy look on my face

I think I was suffering from setting up overload.  I had done a good fair bit, we’d been at it for 6 hours and I had got to the point where I physically and mentally couldn’t do anymore.  So, we decided to call it a day and go check into our hotel and get something to eat.

Once again, we were staying at the Ibis Styles which is one of our favourite hotels to stay at when we work at the Excel.  It’s literally next door and they also have a pub and restaurant, not to mention they do an awesome hot and cold buffet breakfast.

Next on the agenda was FOOD!

The BEST fish ‘n’ chips EVER! Seriously!

After food, it was back in the room, in my comfy jammies and sitting in my comfy bed.  Perfect.  I wrote a list of what needed to be done in the morning and then had an early night knowing it was going to be a long day tomorrow.

After a wonderful big breakfast, we made our way to the Excel and finished setting up our tables.

Not bad at all

Now we were raring to go.  First though Bret had a very important job, that was getting his Mommy a nice cold passion fruit bubble tea.  I don’t even want to know the amount of sugar I go through by the end of the weekend.  I like to think that standing on my feet for 3 days burns it all off.

Fridays are usually quiet at MCM London so it’s the perfect time to have a look around without having to fight through the crowds.  I left the tables in Bret’s capable hands and off I went for a gander.  Guardians of the Galaxy, here I come!

First a random bathroom selfie, just because 😉

Next stop was the North Hall and nothing could have prepared me for the amount of Guardians/Baby Groot I was about to witness.

Lifesize statue of Star Lord & Baby Groot

Baby Groot’s Daddy!

OMG OMG OMG!

How awesome is that?  You can actually sit on the couch with the Guardians of the Galaxy.  That was definitely a photo opportunity that would happen before the weekend was over.

Baby Groot Helium Balloons

Okay, so I may not be able to afford the statue, but a Baby Groot balloon was definitely coming home with me.

Loungefly do the BEST bags and purses!

Groot & Rocket made entirely out of Lego.  Freaking awesome!

Baby Groot and Guardians merchandise was EVERYWHERE.  I had to be sensible though, otherwise I would have left a very poor person, with a billion pound credit card bill.  Life is unfair sometimes.

Fun time was over, I had to go back to the table to make sure Bret was okay but I had a good idea of what I would be purchasing before the end of the weekend.

You’ll be pleased to know that they were the only pointless selfies we took all day! Yep, slackers, we know.  But it had been a long day (the Friday is open until 7pm) and we were ready for going back to the hotel and having another one of those amazing fish and chip dinners.

The next morning we went for another superb breakfast before getting ready for another day at the Excel.

Wow, I have full on DUCKFACE in this photo and it’s really not attractive or clever!

Before going into the South Hall to get our tables ready, we took a little detour into the North Hall for some awesome photo opportunities while it was quiet.

Back to meet Star Lord and Baby Groot

Just chilling with the Guardians, friendly bunch.

Gotta love Baby Groot <3

Bret getting comfy with the Guardians

Look! I’m an action figure!

Just incase you forgot where we were 😉

I spotted this dress on the way back to my table.  I have no idea who made it (and I dread to think how much it cost) but I thought it was absolutely freaking BEAUTIFUL!! I’ll have one in pink please 🙂

We were having a great day at MCM, our customers were lovely, I saw some familiar faces and I’d already bought some Guardians t-shirts.  What isn’t to love?  At lunch time, I nipped over to the Japanese stand for some delicious food but first:

Quick bathroom selfie!

On the way to the Japanese stall, I had a quick look around at the other trader’s stalls and who should I come across again?

It’s a sign I tell you! A sign that he should come home with me.

There was only one thing for it, I just HAD to buy him!

In smaller form of course 😉

Back at the table, Bret and I had some time to do some pointless selfies before the end of the day.

Back at the hotel, we opted for a quieter dinner in the restaurant and then off for an early night because I’d be needing all my energy for the morning, Bret was on a mission.

I made sure I had a hearty breakfast because even though I’d been on my feet non stop for 2 days straight, Bret was about to make me climb a billion steps just for a photo.  Yes, Bret wanted a photo of himself standing on the Queen Victoria Bridge because of course that would be really cool.  Something else that is really cool is the fact that the lifts to the top of the bridge are ALWAYS out of order.  They were broken last October, so you would have thought they could fix them by now.  Instead, I had to climb about 20 flights of stairs and even though Bret was holding my luggage, it was still damn hard work.  I deserved a medal when I got to the top, or at least an alcoholic drink!

Wow look, it’s the view from the bridge.

Wow, look everyone! It’s Bret! On a bridge!

I couldn’t wait to get back down!  Bless him though, it made him happy.

So last day at MCM, we quickly made sure that we spent all our spare pennies.

I have no idea why he needed another one either!

I told you I would be going back for the balloon 😉

Bret did his usual disappearing act for a few hours while he went and got photos with literally every single cosplayer in the Excel.

Here are a few of our favourites:

Shaun of the Dead

Darth Vader & Captain Jack Sparrow

Deadpool (with Daryl Dixon in the background, now that’s a cool crossover idea)

Freddy Kruger

The weekend as usual had been great fun, we met loads of great people, had the most amazing customers and generally had a brilliant time.  Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table to make a purchase, as always we appreciate each and every one of you.

We’ll be back at MCM London at the end of May so we hope to see you all there again.

But for now, I’ll leave you with my Guardians/Baby Groot haul.
